Frequently Asked Questions
Is MakeWeight safe for young wrestlers?
MakeWeight enforces official wrestling weight management rules for both high school (NFHS) and college (NCAA), including minimum wrestling weight (MWW) calculations with each body's own body-fat floors, the 1.5% maximum weekly weight loss rule, and calorie floors. You pick your governing body in the app and every calculation follows its rules. The app requires a minimum age of 13. All protocols are based on peer-reviewed sports nutrition research. However, we always recommend consulting with your physician or athletic trainer before beginning any weight management program.
Does MakeWeight work without an internet connection?
Core features like weight tracking, NFHS/NCAA compliance calculations, hydration logging, and the glideslope planner work fully offline. AI coaching and meal plan generation require an internet connection since they use cloud-based AI.
What data does MakeWeight collect?
MakeWeight stores all your data locally on your device. When you use AI coaching or meal plan features, your athlete profile and relevant context are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic does not use API data to train their models. See our
Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. Go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iPhone, find MakeWeight, and tap Cancel. You'll retain Pro access until the end of your current billing period.
Can I use MakeWeight for sports other than wrestling?
MakeWeight is built specifically for wrestling weight cutting, with NFHS (high school) and NCAA (college) rules hardcoded into the compliance engine. While the nutrition tracking and AI coaching could be useful for other combat sports (MMA, boxing, judo), the regulatory calculations are wrestling-specific.
How does MakeWeight estimate body fat?
MakeWeight estimates body fat with the Navy tape formula, a BMI-based estimate, and skinfold calculations — all computed on your device. These are approximate fitness estimates, not clinical measurements. For your official certification, use the assessment your governing body requires — for high school (NFHS), that's typically the state-sanctioned skinfold or bioimpedance assessment; for college (NCAA), hydrostatic weighing, DEXA, or a Bod Pod — as administered by your school's athletic staff. Progress photos you add are stored only on your device and are never uploaded.
Does MakeWeight work with Apple Watch?
Yes. The Apple Watch companion app includes a phase-aware countdown to weigh-in, weight logging with Digital Crown adjustment, and hydration tracking. Data syncs automatically between your iPhone and Apple Watch.
How do I delete my data?
Go to Profile > Delete Account in the app. This permanently deletes all your local data including weight logs, meal plans, coach conversations, and profile information. This action cannot be undone.
